It is finally next May that the case of Peter Varvaro, owner of the restaurant Smoke Meat Pete in L'Île-Perrot could see its outcome. The businessman was back in court this Wednesday, March 20 in the morning when he appeared before Judge Joey Dubois.

Remember that this was the 18th listing of the restorer's file at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse. The latter was present in the room while he was undergoing oncology treatments in a Montreal hospital center a few times a week to fight terminal incurable liver cancer.

During the man's appearance, in English, he explained that he currently resides in a recreational vehicle parked on the grounds of his restaurant, at 283 1er Rue, in L'Île-Perrot. However, the latter will have to be moved soon at the request of the City. According to Mr. Varvaro, the RV will be moved elsewhere, approximately 5 minutes from the restaurant.

Since the RV is not equipped with a landline telephone line, it would be difficult for the man to initiate the online procedures with the completion of this compensatory work. The Court wishes to give Mr. Varvaro and his partner time to regularize their residential situation before settling the case for good.

“We have a three-month suspended sentence so that he can complete the 75 hours of community service that was imposed on him in another case. Everything will be ratified on May 7,” Mr. Varvaro’s lawyer, Me. Alexandre Dubé, told Judge Joey Dubois.

Recall that these were imposed on him in a case dating from 2016. At the time, he was accused of driving a motor vehicle when his ability to do so was impaired by alcohol or drugs. It was as a result of this offense that he received a community service sentence to be completed within 12 months. In 2019, he returned to court to answer to a new charge related to community work not completed within the allotted time.

It is therefore on Tuesday, May 7 that Mr. Varvaro will return to court before Judge Joey Dubois
