The Hudson Creative Centre invites aviation and history lovers this Monday, March 18, at 273 Main Street in Hudson to attend a conference to mark the 40th anniversary of the Gimli glider. From 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., attendees will hear details of Captain Pearson in conversation with aviators John Lawson and Clint Ward, followed by questions from the audience. There will also be a surprise guest.

40 years ago (July 23), a new Air Canada Boeing 767, flying at 41,000 feet, ran out of fuel near Red Lake, Ontario, and instantly transformed into a glider.

Captain Bob Pearson and co-pilot Maurice Quintal managed to land the large, heavy, unpowered airliner, with 61 passengers and 6 flight attendants, on a short runway at the former RCAF airport in Gimli, Manitoba, with no loss of life. This was a major event in aviation history.
