March 12 with Peter Meier
Conference from the Société d'horticulture et d'environnement de Saint-Lazare
On Tuesday, March 12, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the Société d'horticulture et d'environnement de Saint-Lazare will hold its first conference of the 2024 season. It will take place at the Saint-Lazare Community Centre (1301 Rue du Bois). It will focus on Notions de pédologie - l'étude des caractéristiques du sol.
Do we really know our soil? The aim of this conference is to help us better understand the soil we have and, if necessary, identify the needs to improve its fertility and qualities.
Soil constituents and biology, physical (structure and texture) and chemical properties, organic vs. mineral soils, and soil fertility are just some of the concepts that will be presented.
The speaker and member is Peter Meier. With a DEP in horticulture and gardening and a certificate in horticulture and green spaces from Université Laval, Peter is currently a horticulture teacher at Centre des FP les Moissons in Beauharnois.
Peter will also talk about horticultural substrates and soil analysis*. The evening will begin with a short perennial identification contest, with a prize for the winner.
* Before the soil freezes, please prepare a sample of your soil, taken from a depth of around 15-20 cm, and mix it (stir well) with water in a 1L masson pot. Thereafter, don't stir any more, we want the contents to be completely deposited for the conference.
