Walmart fire: Still no confirmed reopening date
A week after the fire that forced the closure of the Vaudreuil-Dorion Walmart, Walmart Canada is still unable to confirm when the store will be able to reopen.
"The store is currently closed for cleaning and repairs following an arson attack. The store will reopen as soon as possible while we work with authorities to ensure it is safe and up to the standards our customers expect," said Walmart Canada in a press release.
On February 20, some 30 firefighters were dispatched to the Walmart on Boulevard de la Gare because of a fire. The suspect, Luciano Minisini Burke, was arrested shortly afterwards and faces two charges.
"This appears to be arson that will unfortunately and unfairly affect our customers, associates and community who all depend on this branch. To cause a fire in a public place, where several hundred people are present, is shocking, dangerous and shameful. Rest assured, we are cooperating fully with the police investigation. We are evaluating our legal options to seek redress from the alleged perpetrator of the fire, and will do everything in our power to hold this person accountable for his actions," reads the e-mail sent by Walmart Canada to Néomédia.
