The first of the Salon Emplois de qualité organized by the Table de concertation pour l'emploi de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, held this Wednesday afternoon, February 21, in Coteau-du-Lac, was a success. The constant congestion caused by the situation on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge meant that many workers turned up to meet the employers on hand.

"In 41 minutes, we received 178 visitors, a first for Coteau-du-Lac. There was a line out the door at 3pm. We saw that last year in Vaudreuil-Dorion, but not here. When we ask people what brings them here, they all tell us they're fed up with the current situation on the bridge. So far, we've seen both experienced workers and students looking for their first job, as well as employed people coming to see what the region has to offer," Francine St-Denis told Néomédia.

By the end of the event, which closed at 7pm, 423 visitors had passed through the doors of Coteau-du-Lac's Wilson Community Centre to find out about job vacancies in the region.

Several visitors to the show confirmed to the author that they were exasperated by the heavy traffic generated by the new configuration on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge.

A total of 35 employers were present at the show to meet with interested employees. A waiting list had even been created by the event's organizers to keep up with demand.

In addition, a training zone featured the Cégep de Valleyfield, the Centre de formation professionnelle Paul Gérin-Lajoie de Vaudreuil-Dorion and the organization La magie des mots.

Why do local employers attend these events? "It's a must to find employees.Last year, we found a gem in health and safety here, and that person is still working with us. We participate to offer an alternative to people who want to work not too far from home, or who want to stay in the region rather than work outside. There are plenty of great companies in Vaudreuil-Soulanges and interesting jobs. The proof is here today," added Julie Dunn, Vice President Human Resources at Fleury Michon.

This first event will be followed by three others in L'Île-Perrot, Vaudreuil-Dorion and Rigaud, on April 10, October 2 and November respectively. This formula will enable residents of these towns and surrounding areas to attend and find out about the jobs available in the area.

In 2023, the three Vaudreuil-Soulanges Quality Jobs fairs attracted almost 900 visitors, enabling employers to meet potential candidates to meet their labour needs. Last year, over 250 positions were offered on-site.
