At Vaudreuil-Dorion Town Hall?
No return to municipal office for Marie-Claude Nichols
Despite her deep attachment to the municipal world, Vaudreuil MNA Marie-Claude Nichols has no plans, for the time being at least, to run for mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion in the next municipal election.
"There's not a day goes by that I don't hear about it. It's true that I've always loved the municipal world, and I often say that my heart belongs to municipal politics. Maybe the fact that I live in Vaudreuil-Dorion is fuelling the rumour mill, but for the moment, I have no intention of running for mayor. The timing isn't ideal. I'd have to step down as MNA a year before the end of my term. It must also be said that I haven't had an offer to run for mayor," confided the independent MNA in an interview with Néomédia.
Marie-Claude Nichols cut her teeth in municipal politics as mayor of Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot from 2009 to 2014. She was also prefect of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges MRC from 2013 to 2014, before entering provincial politics with the Liberal Party.
"I resisted two Caquist waves, which is no mean feat. I won't lie. Being an independent MNA takes a lot, it's more difficult, but I'm extremely proud to be a provincial MNA," she adds.
The MP made a point of highlighting the work of Vaudreuil-Dorion's current mayor, Guy Pilon, who is in his fifth and final term of office. "Guy Pilon has done a lot for the city.He will leave in place a good team, a strong team.
