Listeria monocytogenes bacteria
Two salad kits recalled by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is notifying the population of Quebec of the recall of two products due to Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The affected items are the President's Choice Mexican Street Corn Salad Kit and the Taylor Farms Mexican Street Corn Salad Kit.
These products are being recalled because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. These products were made from cheese recalled by Rizo-López Foods Inc. as part of an outbreak investigation in the United States.
What to do if you have it
Anyone who believes they may have become ill after consuming a product affected by this recall should contact their health care provider. Then
- Check to see if you have any of the recalled products;
- If so, do not consume, use, sell, serve or distribute recalled products;
- Throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria may not show any visible signs of spoilage or smell, but it can still make you ill. Possible symptoms include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches and a stiff neck. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. In the case of pregnant women, the infection may cause only mild flu-like symptoms, but the unborn child may be infected, born prematurely or die before birth.In severe cases, the disease can cause death.
