3.7-magnitude earthquake felt in Vaudreuil-Soulanges
At 7:37 am this Thursday morning, February 1, many residents of Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Beauharnois-Salaberry and Haut-Saint-Laurent reported on social networks that they felt the earth tremble. An earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale was recorded in the area, as confirmed by the United States Geological Survey.
According to this environmental body, an earthquake of this magnitude does not cause significant material damage.
On social networks, residents of Saint-Zotique, Rivière-Beaudette, Coteau-du-Lac, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Hinchinbrooke reported feeling the earth move. Smaller tremors were felt as far away as Laval and Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts in the Laurentians.
The epicenter was located 6km northeast of Saint-Anicet, in the Haut-Saint-Laurent region.
