Women's hockey: half-hearted interest from readers in the new league
The professional women's hockey league was launched in January 2024. A Campivallensian who lives in Vaudreuil-Soulanges is part of the Montreal squad as a reserve. The launch of this new sports organization inspired last week's Neomedia poll question.
Like the National Hockey League in its early days, the new sports organization features six teams named after their respective cities: Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Minnesota, New York and Boston.
The Montreal team's first home game, held at the Verdun Auditorium, was sold out in front of 4,043 fans. On January 16, the players took to the ice at the Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens, to take on the New York team.
The team is made up of 13 forwards, 7 defensemen and three goalkeepers. Three reserves are also part of the team in case of injury to regular players. Among them is Salaberry-de-Valleyfield native and Vaudreuil-Soulanges resident Mélodie Daoust.
Here are the results of the poll:
The choices offered in the poll are as follows:
- Yes, I try to watch every game: 26.7%;
- Yes, I keep up to date with the final score: 33.3%;
- Yes, I'll try to buy season tickets for 2025: 0%;- No, I'm not interested in field hockey in general: 33.3%;
- No, I find the show less interesting than men's field hockey: 6.7%;
