"Transmissions arborescentes" at Cégep de Valleyfield with Mathieu Dubé
As part of a creative residency, poet-collagist Mathieu Dubé, a graduate of the Cégep de Valleyfield, created a singular work that is currently on display in the Cégep's exhibition room, room DM-02. Some twenty works by Cité-des-Jeunes students are also on display, under the theme Transmissions arborescentes. The exhibition runs until January 31.
His work is accompanied by works by students from several grade levels, produced during creative workshops led by Mr. Dubé. This exhibition brings together the fruits of cultural mediations, including those held in several elementary schools in the Beauharnois-Salaberry MRC.
Students from the Visual Arts program also played their part, creating works inspired by Mathieu Dubé's creative universe, and some of them accompanied the artist during the workshop offered to students of Ms. Nancy Lépine, Visual Arts teacher at Cité-des-Jeunes high school.
The visual arts students thus had the opportunity to witness Mr. Dubé's creative process, where he was an observer during the creation of the works. "Dubé is also the first artist in residence at the library to exhibit in our showroom," says Érick Cyr, coordinator and teacher in the visual arts program at Cégep de Valleyfield.
What's more, the artist, who was on site for a few days, created a primer of words related to his explorations as a poet-collagist. The exhibition, under the theme Transmissions arborescentes, includes over a dozen works by Cégep students and some twenty by Cité-des-Jeunes students, as well as a dozen collections by local elementary school pupils.
The exhibition is open to the college community and the public until the Cégep de Valleyfield Open House on Wednesday, January 31, 8 p.m. In addition to the collaboration between the Cégep de Valleyfield and the Cité-des-Jeunes high school, the project's main collaborators are the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), the Beauharnois-Salaberry MRC, whose grant was obtained through the territorial partnership program, the Ville de Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, and the Bibliothèque Armand-Frappier.
