The Town of Hudson is about to hold two public consultations on draft bylaws that will have a direct impact on all property owners if adopted by the town's elected officials.

How will these new environmental protection bylaws affect residents?

There are three points to note:

Tree protection :

- Increased restrictions on tree cutting (when, where, how big);

- New restrictions on the felling of identified remarkable trees.

Protection of wetlands and watercourses :

- Prohibition on filling wetlands for residential purposes;

- For vacant lots: riparian buffer strip increased from 10 to 15 metres.

Financial contributions for parks and natural areas:

Expansion of the categories for which payment of such a contribution is required. These new categories include :

- Construction of new residences (including reconstruction after demolition);

- Major renovations to existing homes;

- Expansion of commercial buildings;

- Change of use of a residence or building.

Citizens interested in learning more about the impact of these new measures are asked to come to the Community Centre (394 rue Main) at the following times for information sessions:

- Thursday, January 25, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m;

- Saturday, January 27, from 9 a.m. to noon;

A presentation of the draft by-laws, an exchange with citizens and a public dialogue are scheduled for Wednesday, January 31, starting at 7 p.m. at the same location. Interested parties are invited to come and share their points of view and concerns with others at this evening workshop.

You can also take part in the debate by completing the questionnaire between February 1 and 14: https://hudson.quebec/rci/. The survey will be available online from February 1. Paper copies will also be available at the Town Hall from the same date.
