Saint-Lazare: lecture in English by a food specialist
On January 18, 2024, from 7 to 9 pm, an English-language conference on food will be held at Saint-Lazare. This conference is open to all and free of charge. The Accès Saint-Lazare card is not required. No registration is necessary. The conference takes place at the Centre communautaire de Saint-Lazare, located at 1301, rue du Bois.
The confusion surrounding food is growing, with daily warnings about pesticides, artificial sweeteners in diet drinks and nitrites in hot dogs. Miracle foods add to this complexity. Science is essential to navigating this nutritional challenge.
Joe Schwarcz is Director of McGill University's Office for Science and Society, whose mission is to separate sense from nonsense. He teaches in the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine. He is the author of nineteen bestsellers and teaches a course on food and nutrition which, with 2,700 students, holds the record for the largest enrolment for a university course in Canada. Professor Schwarcz is also an amateur magician, often adding a little magic to his presentations.
