Budget 2024: a 1.54% tax increase in Coteau-du-Lac
Although the City of Coteau-du-Lac's operating budget and three-year capital investment program (PTI) were ratified last December, the adoption of the taxation by-law was on the agenda for the Tuesday, January 9 meeting to conclude the annual budget planning process.
The municipal budget for 2024 is $16.1 million, up from $14.9 million in 2023. Despite the rise in inflation-driven expenses, the municipal administration has succeeded in presenting a balanced budget that spares
households.
Coteau-du-Lac's residential tax bill will remain among the lowest in the region in 2024, despite a slight increase in property rates. Reduced service charges also benefit Coteau-du-Lac taxpayers.
For example, collection fees for organic materials have been reduced by 2.75%, while fees for household waste (garbage) have been cut by 3.06%.
In 2024, the tax bill for a residence valued at $500,000 is $3,028, compared with $2,982 in 2023, an increase of $50 (1.54%).
"We are proud to adopt a reasonable budget that takes into consideration the turbulence of the current economic context, and we are concerned with limiting the tax burden of Coteau-du-Lac residents," said Andrée Brosseau, Mayor of Coteau-du-Lac.
The PTI 2024-2026 (Programme triennal d'immobilisations - Three-year capital expenditure program) sets out the amounts and financing methods associated with the capital expenditures that the Town plans to make over the next three years.
over the next three years.
For 2024, investments in the order of $12.7 million have been estimated. These sums will be used to carry out various works, including the extension of municipal services, the rehabilitation of a culvert, the purchase of heavy-duty vehicles and generators, the upgrading of the wastewater treatment plant in the industrial park and certain pumping stations, and the production of plans and specifications for potential projects.
A presentation of the budget and tax rates is available on the home page of www.coteau-du-lac.com in the "News" section.
