Some thirty firefighters battled a blaze on Valois Street on Sunday evening
The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion's fire department was called to 485 rue Valois around 9:30 pm on Sunday, January 7, when the garage attached to a residence was engulfed in flames.
The day after the call-out, Prevention Division Manager John Boudreau confirms that the blaze originated in this accessory building attached to a residence. "We don't yet know the exact cause of the fire, but several fuel sources, such as a motorcycle and gasoline, were in the garage. When we arrived on the scene, the garage was well engulfed in flames, and the flames were heading towards the residence. Following the firefighters' rapid intervention, the fire was brought under control and confined to the garage. The party wall between the garage and the residence was damaged as a result of the firefighters' intervention," he sums up.
Fortunately, the occupants of the residence were able to evacuate before the firefighters arrived. They suffered no injuries and were taken care of by the Red Cross, as they were unable to return home immediately.
"The intervention required a general alert within our department, and we called on colleagues to come and lend a hand on site. Some thirty firefighters from the Pincourt and Salaberry-de-Valleyfield fire departments, which has a specialized rapid response team, were on site. Meanwhile, a team from Saint-Lazare was covering the territory from fire station 12," he adds.
The intervention ended at 1:20 this monday morning.
