Still 6 to 8 weeks to open a third lane
Work continues on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge
The Maintien et reconstruction du pont de l'Île-aux-Tourtes Facebook page has provided more information on the work underway on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge. Work is taking place over the weekends to reinforce the concrete slab and open up a third lane of traffic on the bridge.
Over the past few weekends, operations involving the assembly of metal parts and concreting have been taking place. The aim is to solidify the slab, an essential step in reopening a third lane on the bridge.
According to communications published on the aforementioned Facebook page, "steel shoring pieces are positioned to support the slab. A concrete grout is then put in place to connect the slab and the metal support elements", it reads.
A six- to eight-week timeframe is envisaged, starting in early December, before the third lane can be opened.
At the same time, reinforcement work is continuing on the end beams above the main navigation channel. "To reopen additional traffic lanes, we estimate it will take at least a year of work on these beams. A precise schedule cannot be provided at this time, as we are evaluating all options for accelerating the work," we conclude.
