Les Coteaux resident receives speeding ticket and license suspension
On December 20, around 9:30 a.m., police officers from the Beauharnois-Salaberry MRC intercepted a speeding vehicle on Chemin St-Louis in Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois. The driver, a 43-year-old man from Les Coteaux, was travelling at a speed of 97 km/h in a zone where the maximum speed limit is 50 km/h. He received a $679 statement of offence and 10 demerit points.
A little later, around 2 p.m., police officers again stopped a speeding vehicle on rang du Dix in Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois. The driver, a 55-year-old woman from Beauharnois, was travelling at 134 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. She received an $822 statement of offence and 10 demerit points.
Their driver's licenses were suspended for 7 days, as stipulated in the Highway Safety Code.
With the holiday season just around the corner and many people expected to be out and about on the roads, the Sûreté du Québec is reminding drivers to be cautious. Police officers will be stepping up their interventions, targeting not only speeding, but also driving ability impaired by alcohol or drugs.
The 2021-2026 Transportation Network Safety Strategy, "Human life, at the heart of our actions", aims to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury collisions on the road and recreational tourism networks. Courses of action are implemented in each of the distinct axes: Partnership, Intervention, Awareness, Technology, Evaluation by the Sûreté du Québec and its partners, to work together towards the common goal of making our roads, trails and bodies of water safer.
