Île-aux-Tourtes bridge: are toll rates on Autoroute 30 set to rise?
Between 5% and 10% more vehicles are using the Autoroute 30 toll plaza in Les Cèdres since the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité Durable implemented mitigation measures due to the reconfiguration of the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge.
These are the words of NA30 General Manager Marc Desserières in an interview with Néomédia. "The implementation of mitigation measures has an impact on our traffic. Of course, this varies from day to day, but I'd say that approximately 5% to 10% more vehicles use the toll plaza since the announcement of free access for all. These new users include all types of vehicles, both cars and trucks," he observes.
Every day, 25,000 vehicles use the Autoroute 30 toll booth at this time of year. In recent weeks, daily peaks of 28,000 vehicles have been recorded.
Impact on 2024 rates?
Given that the new rates for 2024 are decided, as they are every year, on the basis of the previous year's traffic, could the traffic generated by the situation on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge lead to a rise in toll booth rates for the coming year? The new rates come into effect on February 1 of each year.
"You're right in saying that, under our agreement with the Ministère des Transports et de la mobilité durable, rates are set on the basis of the previous year's traffic. However, we take into account the average of the last twelve months, from December 15, 2022 to December 14, 2023, to determine the next fares for 2024. Recent ridership on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge is not very significant compared with the rest of the year. The new fares, revised upwards or downwards, will be announced at the end of December. If they do, the ridership generated by the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge will not be affected," he concludes.
