From December 8 and 11
Additional mitigation measures at Île-aux-Tourtes bridge
The ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable is informing road users of the implementation of new mitigation measures in response to inconveniences associated with the major obstructions required at the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge.
Use of shoulder by buses (UAB)
As of today, the use of the shoulder by buses will be possible on Highway 40, westbound (towards Vaudreuil-Dorion), between rue Frédéric-Back and boulevard des Anciens-Combattants. This measure is authorized only for school, exo and STM buses, subject to compliance with the conditions stipulated in the Highway Safety Code for traffic on a shoulder. This will enable public transit users to bypass the congestion caused by the new lane configuration on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge.
Free passage on certain exo bus routes
Starting Monday December 11, exo bus routes 7, 10, 35 and 91 will be free of charge until the opening of the third lane on the bridge. Riders must, however, purchase a valid ticket if they wish to transfer to another public transit service.
Distribution of free public transit tickets
Starting Monday, December 11, free public transit tickets will be distributed at Hudson, Vaudreuil, Dorion, Pincourt and Île-Perrot stations on train line 11 Vaudreuil-Hudson. Montreal-bound commuters will receive a free two-pass ticket for the outward and return train journeys, including connections with the bus, metro and REM networks.
Tickets will be distributed Monday to Friday, between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., depending on the train schedule, when trains depart for Montreal. No tickets will be issued on Saturdays or Sundays. Distribution will be suspended between Friday, December 22, 2023 at 8 p.m. and Monday, January 8, 2024 at 5:30 a.m. Free travel on line 11 will be maintained at all five stations during periods when tickets are not distributed.
Other mitigation measures in place
These mitigation measures are in addition to those already in place:
Free travel at all times on the exo 40 - Express Vaudreuil - Terminus Côte-Vertu bus line (users will need to acquire a valid ticket if they wish to transfer to another public transit service);
Improved train service on line 11 Vaudreuil-Hudson with the addition of the following departures:
Train no. 12: departs Hudson station at 6:13 a.m;
Train no 16: departs Vaudreuil at 7:30 a.m;
Train No. 21: departs Lucien-L'Allier station at 4:40 p.m., terminating at Hudson station;
Free tolls on Autoroute 30;
At certain times, synchronized traffic lights on Highway 20 and police presence to facilitate traffic flow in the area.
Whenever possible, workers and employers are encouraged to telecommute and take public transit.
Information on how to plan your commute can be found in the Chrono application.
Highlights
Since Saturday, December 2, 2023, one lane in each direction has been open on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, due to a damaged slab. This configuration should be in place for a period of six to eight weeks.
The reopening of a third lane and a return to dynamic traffic management on weekdays will be possible once repair work on the damaged slab is complete. This will enable two of the three lanes to be kept open in the direction of traffic during peak periods.
The westbound Île-aux-Tourtes bridge will be closed from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. This closure will allow the paving of a section of the Highway 40 shoulder at Senneville, the adjustment of guardrails on the bridge and the securing of access to the worksite.
