Île-aux-Tourtes bridge: another six to eight weeks of misery
It was on social network X, formerly Twitter, that the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Geneviève Guilbault, launched an appeal to employers, asking them to show indulgence and flexibility to their employees living in Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
"Given the context, @picard_marilyne and I are calling on employers and workers, where possible, to show flexibility and give preference to teleworking for a few weeks. We are working tirelessly on solutions," she said.
The message was echoed by Soulanges MNA Marilyne Picard.
"It's a request that was made to us by several municipal councillors. They wanted clear instructions to this effect. You'll understand that, as a government, we can't force companies to do this, at least not in this case. It would have to be done by decree, as it was during the pandemic, and we're not there yet," said Maxime Roy, Director of Communications in Minister Guilbault's office, in an interview with Néomédia.
Mr. Roy also confirmed that the bridge's current configuration - one lane in each direction - would remain in place for six to eight weeks. The reopening of a three-lane configuration may be possible once the slab repair work is completed. That said, no timetable has been announced.
On December 1, MTMD announced that a fourth lane would have to be cut due to a concrete slab in need of repair. Since then, the local road network in Vaudreuil-Soulanges has been a real nightmare.
