New changes to the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion’s aquatic programming
Starting from the winter session, which will take place from January 8th to March 22nd, 2024, users of the pool located on the Cité-des-Jeunes campus will notice changes to the aquatic programming. With the hiring of new instructors, the number of courses offered has increased and two new courses for beginners have been added.
"Given the high demand for swimming lessons, the program has been thoroughly revised to maximize the number of spaces available on weekends. For Swimmer 1 and 2 classes, as an example, several groups will be able to train at the same time," explains Catherine Milard-Bouchard, Head of the Aquatic and Nautical Programs section. "Depending on the total number of registrations, there will be between one and four groups from the same level in the pool every hour.”
New for the next session, Swimmer 1 will be divided into three separate classes: Regular, Fear of Water and Teen 1. The Fear of Water class is aimed at children aged 5 to 9 who are afraid of the water and have never taken swimming lessons.
Teen 1, on the other hand, is intended for youths aged 10 to 16 who do not know how to swim. This addition to the program is meant to accommodate teenagers who often find themselves in an in-between situation, giving them the opportunity to learn how to swim alongside young people in the same age group.
Free training
This winter, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion will once again offer free training programs to become a lifeguard or instructor, as part of the Quebec 2022-2017 Action Plan to promote the practice of sports, physical and recreational activities.
On Monday, December 11th at 6 p.m., Vaudreuil-Dorion residents will be able to register online for lifesaving training and swimming lessons for children and adults.
There is no charge to register for the Swim Instructor and Bronze Medal courses, as well as the combined Bronze Medallion /Bronze Cross training course. Non-residents will be able to take up the remaining spots as of December 13th, 9 a.m.
Full details regarding the training courses offered, prerequisites and course dates are available on the City's website under Swimming lessons.
New Pricing
A new fee will also come into effect with the next registration period.
"The City has not adjusted its pricing since 2014. The time had come for us to align our rates with those of other nearby aquatic facilities," said Guy Pilon, Mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion.
For example, for a 10-week session, a resident in Swimmer levels 3 to 6 who used to pay $52, will now have to pay $80. For the same service, a child who does not live in Vaudreuil-Dorion will have to pay $130, instead of $72.
For the public swim period, the rate for non-residents will increase to $5 regardless of the duration or age of the users.
The new pricing and class schedule are available on the City’s website at ville.vaudreuil-dorion.qc.ca.
