MTQ conducts analyses
Île-aux-Tourtes bridge: no game plan after discovery of a new crack
Nearly a week after the discovery of a new crack on the eastbound (Montreal) side of the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, the Ministère des Transports has yet to provide an update on the situation.
At the beginning of the week, Néomédia sent an e-mail to the provincial authority to find out the next steps in the file, the timetable for this new situation, the duration of the planned closure and the game plan for the winter season.
Since the crack appeared, the two-lane-per-direction configuration has been preferred at all times.
"For the moment, I don't have the answers to the questions asked, as analyses are still underway", confirms Sarah Bensadoun, spokesperson for the Ministère des Transports et de la mobilité durable to Néomédia.
These analyses will determine whether further action is required. For the time being, it cannot be ruled out that other traffic lanes may have to be closed, as the MTQ indicated in a press release earlier this week.
Traffic on the bridge remains safe, and in case of doubt, the Ministry will not hesitate to close a structure.
