As part of the 8th edition of the Early Childhood Week (ECW), taking place from November 20 to 26, La Maison de la Famille Vaudreuil-Soulanges (MFVS) is joining the collective movement. For the occasion, MFVS will be offering families enrolled in its services various activities, such as kite-making under the theme of rising together.

Not everyone has the same opportunities to develop to their full potential. The theme of this year's event is Rising together to champion young children’s rights! The Maison de la Famille is also offering story time this week.

From November 20 to 26, the whole of Quebec is mobilizing to give a voice to the province's 509,188 toddlers aged 0 to 5. In Montérégie, 6.1% of the population - over 90,400 children - are growing up to become the adults of tomorrow.

"Toddlers are a treasure for Quebec society. They are our future, and we must do everything we can to help them develop their full potential.  The Grande semaine des tout-petits is an opportunity for us to remind them of this, and to encourage action in this direction.

"I invite the entire population of Vaudreuil-Soulanges to keep an eye out for our programming, so that together we can stand up for our little treasures," emphasizes France Pomminville, General Manager of the Maison de la Famille Vaudreuil-Soulanges.

The rights of toddlers and families

Regardless of gender, parents, origin, culture, place of birth, living environment, language, religion or even mental or physical health, every toddler deserves to be treated fairly and justly.

Recent years have exacerbated many societal problems, including inflation, environmental issues, availability of services, access to affordable housing, not to mention rising family poverty.

Nearly a million and a half Quebec households are no longer able to meet their most basic needs, or feed themselves properly. We must ensure that these issues do not undermine their most fundamental rights, and by extension, those of their little ones.

These include the right to a quality education, the best possible health care, food, clothing and a safe place to live. Adults are urged to do what's best for them, to protect them from all forms of discrimination.
