Replacement of 475 streetlight bulbs
Lighting upgrade at Saint-Lazare
Last October, Town of Saint-Lazare began modernizing its street lighting network by replacing 475 high-pressure sodium streetlight bulbs with light-emitting diode (LED) luminaires.
LED technology is renowned for its efficiency, longevity and high energy-saving potential. Savings are significant, both in terms of energy consumption and maintenance costs.
The addition of an intelligent lighting management system will make it possible to control lighting hours and intensity remotely, as well as detect breakdowns and failures.
This solution is also environmentally friendly, reducing light pollution from street lighting as much as possible, while responding favorably to visibility and road safety issues.
Project schedule and progress :
- Phase 1 - conversion of municipal street lighting: ± 90% complete;
- Phase 2 - conversion of street lighting along provincial highways / major access roads: awaiting authorization from the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable.
What are the benefits of LED lighting?
Greater safety thanks to better visibility of the roadway;
5 times longer life than the high-pressure sodium bulbs widely used by municipalities, reducing maintenance requirements;
Energy savings of up to 70%;
Reduced light pollution from street lighting, thanks to more directional lighting that prevents light loss towards the sky;
Better real-time management of lighting, offering better service to citizens.
In February 2018, the Fédération québécoise des municipalités (FQM), in partnership with the energy-efficient services company Énergère, launched a program offering Quebec towns and municipalities a bundled purchase rate to modernize public lighting networks. Town of Saint-Lazare and around a hundred other municipalities have already benefited from this program to further the development of smart, sustainable cities.
