Neomedia Poll of the Week
Are schools doing enough to combat violence and bullying?
Since the start of the school year, several acts of violence have made the headlines, particularly at École secondaire des Échos in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
Gangs, fights between students, threats to staff - in short, the situation has parents and students worried.
On Friday, Education Minister Bernard Drainville presented his Violence and Bullying Prevention Plan.
The plan, which comes with a budget of $30 million over five years, has four main thrusts, aimed at documenting, training, raising awareness and supporting both students and school staff in the face of rising violence.
More than a dozen measures will be implemented "to develop the social and emotional skills" of students. These measures include the standardization of schools' anti-violence and anti-bullying plans, and the addition of mandatory content at primary and secondary levels.
