Security surveillance around an elementary school in L'Île-Perrot
A suspicious individual was reportedly seen loitering around the elementary school François-Perrot in L'Île-Perrot on Thursday.
In a communication sent to parents of students attending the school, and of which Néomédia received a copy, the school administration indicated that the man had attempted to enter the school without authorization.
According to the letter, police support was requested. "We did receive a call about a man loitering around the school. According to a witness, he was able to enter the school and was seen in a bathroom. That said, no inappropriate gestures were reported. We're still checking to understand why and how the individual ended up inside the school," confirmed Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Valérie Beauchamp.
On Friday, a Sûreté du Québec vehicle was deployed near the school to ensure surveillance of the area.
The school assures that the situation is being taken very seriously and that security measures have been put in place, including the addition of door-locking validation rounds and a reduction in the number of unlocked doors giving access to the courtyard during recess and lunch periods.
Students were also reminded not to open the door to an adult.
