Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion is taking advantage of Waste Reduction Week to hold an event to encourage the reuse, repair and recovery of objects. The fourth edition of the Réparothon will take place on Sunday, October 22, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., at the Centre multisports André-Chagnon, 3093 boulevard de la Gare.

"With the consumer price index continuing to rise, an initiative like the Réparothon makes perfect sense. Not only does it limit over-consumption by repairing faulty goods, but it also encourages waste reduction. This event therefore has both ecological and economic benefits," says Oriana Farina, Environment Section Manager.

The following partners will be on hand to share their knowledge and help visitors repair various objects:

  • Aiguisage CL (knife sharpening - maximum of three);
  • Cercle des fermières (simple clothing repairs);
  • PC-Teck (computer troubleshooting);
  • Tricentris (good recycling practices).

Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion's environnement Section will be holding a workshop to make shopping bags and tawashi, a zero-waste sponge for scouring dishes. Participants should bring old socks or sweaters.

There will also be an opportunity to repair broken books at the Vaudreuil-Dorion library kiosk. Le Lab will be giving a second life to old clothes through digital printing. To do so, visitors will need to bring clothing or pieces of fabric, along with their images in digital format on a USB key.

Citizens can also dispose of old batteries, ink cartridges, small electronic devices, corks and pencils at the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion kiosk.

Eco-responsible interior decoration

As part of Ecodécouvertes, Vanessa Sicotte, creator of the blog Damask & Dentelle, will give a talk at 1:30 p.m. at the Centre multisports André-Chagnon on ecoresponsible interior decorating. At a time when consciences are collectively awakening to environmental damage, is it still possible to keep up with decorating trends without over-consuming?

Vanessa Sicotte, who has appeared on Sauvez les meubles! and on Canal Vie, is convinced that it is. During this conference, she'll talk about shopping for what you've got at home, making something new out of something old, bargain-hunting like a pro, and creating a unique and sustainable decor within your budget.

Those interested in attending the conference can already register online at ville.vaudreuil-dorion.qc.ca.
