Object library launched in Vaudreuil-Dorion
On Tuesday, October 17 at 6 p.m., Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion will officially launch its brand new library of objects, the winning project of the 2022 participatory budget proposed by citizens Karine La Flèche and Stephanie Dornenburg.
From now on, users of the municipal library will be able to borrow a hundred or so varied objects, including items for the home, small tools, toys and more.
The aim is to give access to as many resources as possible by reducing over-consumption, cutting down on single-use purchases and encouraging the sharing of objects between citizens.
"I'm delighted to see this library of objects become a reality. It's the first participatory budget project to see the light of day. The second edition is now underway, and citizens will soon be called upon to vote on the projects selected by a committee of City employees.
"I'd like to emphasize that Mrs. La Flèche and Mrs. Dornenburg did more than propose the project; they actively participated in its development with our team. Many thanks to them. Thanks also to the library staff who worked hard to offer this new service... and to find the space to house all these objects!
"That said, rest assured that this library of objects will be showcased in our future library in just over a year's time," says Mayor Guy Pilon.
"From October 14 to 21, the 25th Quebec Public Library Week takes place, with this year's theme: "You've changed. So have your libraries! "
"It couldn't have come at a better time to launch our brand new object library. Over the years, the library has evolved to meet the needs of the population by offering a wide range of services, as well as a living environment in which to take part in a wide range of activities. The object lending service fits perfectly into this approach," explains Annick Lemay, head of the library division at the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion.
Under one roof, citizens can borrow books and magazines, self-service laptops and tablets (on site), board games, video games, music CDs and DVDs, themed take-home reading kits, and seeds and plants through the Jardinothèque and Bouturothèque. A host of new items have now been added to this range, all free of charge.
Conference on decluttering
The library launch will be followed at 7 p.m. by a conference entitled Épurer sa vie, presented by decluttering specialist Vicky Cloutier. She'll talk about concrete ways to successfully declutter, step by step, and change your perception of consumerism. The activity is open to all, and no registration is required.
