A café-conférence on Coteau-Station from 1887 to 1994 will be held on Saturday, October 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gilles-Grenier building, located at 21, rue Prieur in Les Coteaux.

History buffs are invited to this captivating activity hosted by Louis Richer, Maître Généalogiste Agréé (MGA), who will transport them back in time to explore the fascinating history of a railway village in its heyday. This event promises to be an enriching and memorable experience.

This journey into the past will be made possible by the model built by the late Hermès Walker, a true tribute to a village that left its mark on its era, and which has been rediscovered thanks to the research work of Myriam Sauvé, a councillor with the Municipalité des Coteaux. During this event, participants will discover many aspects of life in this flourishing village over the years. Louis Richer will guide participants through some fascinating topics, including:

- The municipal, religious and educational institutions that shaped the community.
- The economic engine, with a focus on the railroad, its infrastructure, and the jobs it generated.
- Financial services, including banking, insurance and securities.
- Various other essential services, such as doctors, lawyers, bakers, dairies, dressmakers, hairdressers, shoemakers, plumbers, electricians and travelling salesmen.
- Shops, including general stores, butchers, hotels, restaurants and banqueting halls.
- Entertainment, including movies, dancing and billiards.
- Special events such as the Santa Claus parade, Mardi Gras, Mi-Carême, and bingo turkeys.
- Local associations, including the Knights of Columbus, Children of Mary and Cercle des Fermières.
- The history of local field hockey and other sports that have left their mark on the region.
- Unique events, such as the spring floods and fires that forged the community.

Participants can bring their own memories and photos to enrich this shared experience.

This conference promises to be a real dive into local history and an exceptional opportunity to discover the roots of the Coteaux community. A chance to connect with the past and celebrate our collective heritage.
