CSSTL support workers vote in favor of strike mandate
Gathered at a general assembly on Tuesday October 3, members of the Syndicat du personnel de soutien des Trois-Lacs (SPSTL-CSQ) passed by a 93% vote in favor of a strike mandate that could go as far as an unlimited general strike.
The launch of the unlimited general strike will be preceded by strike sequences at times deemed appropriate.
On September 19, the Syndicat de l'enseignement des Seigneurie also adopted a mandate for an unlimited general strike.
SPSTL President Éric Vézina explains, "Faced with the Quebec government's closure after almost a year of negotiations, our members wanted to send out a strong signal. We will be monitoring the outcome of the votes of the other member unions of the Common Front, before deciding on the next steps before deciding how to proceed".
In November 2022, the Fédération du personnel de soutien, a member of the Centrale syndicale du Québec, brought its demands to the bargaining table.
"The government came back to us with its offer in December. Then we had a few meetings, but there was very little progress. Between 70% and 80% of our members still have precarious status. In full shortage of work, on offer still offer of posts to 10, 15, 20 hours per week is a non-sens à our eyes ", told Vézina last August.
