As of the next federal election, the citizens of the municipalities of Les Cèdres and Pointe-des-Cascades will be called upon to vote in their new electoral district.

Indeed, the report tabled last June by the Redistribution Federal Electoral districts Commission for Quebec stipulates that the municipalities of Les Cèdres and Pointe-des-Cascades will become part of the electoral district of Salaberry-Suroît, which will be renamed Beauharnois-Soulanges.

This decision stems from a proposal tabled by the commissioners, and is based on the fact that the population of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges district now exceeds the provincial average by 19%.

Furthermore, the Vaudreuil-Soulanges electoral district will be renamed the Vaudreuil electoral district.

According to the report, "the proposed changes were intended to reduce the population of the Vaudreuil electoral district. They were deemed acceptable by most stakeholders. The most significant opposition came from Pointe-des-Cascades. The mayor and citizens expressed a desire for their municipality to remain in the Vaudreuil electoral division, given its long-standing ties with the town of the same name."

However, the Commission decided to maintain the proposed transfer "since the population of Vaudreuil must imperatively be reduced and the only other possible option, namely the transfer of the municipalities of Rigaud and Pointe-Fortune to the electoral division of Salaberry-Suroît, does not seem opportune", we also read in the report.

The federal electoral map was last redrawn in 2012. In the 2015 election, the municipalities of Coteau-du-Lac, Les Coteaux, Rivière-Beaudette, Saint-Clet, Sainte-Justine-de-Newton, Sainte-Marthe, Saint-Polycarpe, Saint-Télesphore, Saint-Zotique and Très-Saint-Rédempteur officially joined the riding of Salaberry-Suroît.
