Aqueduct flushing underway in Hudson
Hudson Public Works employees are currently flushing the water system in the Réseau Vallées d'Hudson sector. The operation runs weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is scheduled to end at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 13.
This major operation may cause a slight drop in water pressure, with or without a rusty (reddish) discoloration. This is harmless, and the water remains drinkable at all times, but it may cause some inconvenience, including stains on fabrics.
We recommend that you avoid washing clothes and dishes when the system is rinsing. If the water is rusty, open the cold water tap and let it run until it becomes colorless.
A reminder never to leave a tap running unattended.
Why rinse the system? Flushing the water system removes mineral sediments (including iron and rust particles) deposited by the water on the inside walls of the pipes. The contaminated water is discharged through hydrants. This process also helps maintain drinking water quality. In addition, regular maintenance of the aqueduct ensures the smooth operation of our network, including street valves and hydrants.
