The Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil, Marie-Claude Nichols, is inviting the region's population to sign a petition calling on the CAQ government to respect its commitment to build a multi-level parking garage on the site of the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital, rather than a 5.7-hectare surface parking lot, which will have major environmental impacts.

The petition, initiated by Mères au Front, is sponsored by the MNA and will be available until November 16 on the Quebec National Assembly website. To date, almost 900 people have signed the petition.

"It's important that citizens speak out, because the CAQ is turning a deaf ear on this issue, as on many others that affect our region's environment. This is a government that has no sensitivity to the issues of climate change and the environment" points out Ms. Nichols.

She says she's been out in the field all summer, and citizens have been calling her on the subject. Action after action has been taken for months to call on the CAQ government to respect its commitments on this issue. The Vaudreuil-Dorion municipal council passed a resolution and issued a press release calling for a return to multi-storey parking.

For her part, MNA Nichols tabled a motion in the National Assembly calling on the government to respect the original plan, but unfortunately, it was rejected by the CAQ. "This petition is another tool to demonstrate to the CAQ government that our region is not prepared to cut corners on the environment" said Nichols.

The original plan to build the new Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital called for the construction of an 1869-space underground or multi-level parking garage. However, the CAQ government decided to go ahead with a 5.7-hectare surface parking lot.
