NDIP and Pincourt celebrate Smoke Alarm Test Day
On September 28, the towns of Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot and Pincourt will celebrate the first edition of Smoke Alarm Test Day. Launched by Ontario, this initiative has led to the creation of a Canada-wide awareness event.
The Service d'urgence et de protection incendie de Pincourt / NDIP is inviting residents of both towns to take part in this event and check the condition of their smoke alarms.
In the week leading up to the event, banners were put up in various high-traffic areas in both municipalities to promote the first edition of Smoke Alarm Test Day.
The aim of this prevention activity is to create a ripple effect to encourage citizens to take action by checking their smoke alarms and encouraging their loved ones to do so too, notably by using the keyword #sauvésparlebip or #savedbythebip in social media.
Raising public awareness of the importance of checking smoke alarms is essential to fire prevention. Smoke alarms are still the best way to save lives.
Yet statistics on the fire situation in Quebec for 2019-2020 show that a large number of Quebecers still don't have a working smoke alarm.
In fact, over 31% of residential buildings damaged by fire in Quebec did not have a working smoke alarm.
