Regional artists nominated
The Vaudreuil-Soulanges region well represented at the ADISQ Gala
On September 20, the artists nominated for the Gala de l'ADISQ 2023, a two-part ceremony to be held in November, were announced. Among the nominees are Matt Holubowsi, Patrick Watson and Alicia Moffet, three singer-songwriters with roots in Hudson and Saint-Lazare.
The former is a native of the small town nestled in the heart of Vaudreuil-Soulanges, where he still has family members. The 30-something artist is nominated at the Premier gala de l'ADISQ, to be held on November 1 at MTelus.
His fourth career opus, Like flowers on a molten lawn, could take top honors in the English-language Album of the Year category.
Nearly 700 players from the Quebec music industry will attend this annual ceremony.
Meanwhile, Patrick Watson, who spent much of his childhood in Hudson, has been nominated for the ADISQ Gala in the Artist of the Year - International category.
This second part of the event will be broadcast live on ICI TÉLÉ on Sunday, November 5 at 8pm. Hosted by Louis-José Houde for the 18th consecutive year, the show will take place in Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier at Place des Arts.
The people of Saint-Lazare will no doubt be delighted to learn of Alicia Moffet's nomination in the Show of the Year - Anglophone category for Interwine. The co-host of Occupation Double lived in Saint-Lazare for several years.
Other well-known Vaudreuil-Soulanges nominees
Other artists among the evening's nominees are also well known in Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
For example, Les Trois Accords, who performed at the Festival de cirque de Vaudreuil-Dorion last June, are finalists in the Group or Duo of the Year category at the Gala de l'ADISQ. Their album Présence d'esprit is also competing in the Album of the Year - Rock category at the Premier Gala de l'ADISQ.
Also in the Duo or Group of the Year category, the group Bleu Jeans Bleu will be at the Festival des couleurs in Rigaud on Sunday, October 8 at 4pm. The group's latest album, Top minou, is also nominated in the Album of the Year - POP category at the Premier gala de l'ADISQ. Claude Cobra and his cohorts could also walk away with the Show of the Year statuette at the ADISQ Gala.
Two other artists who will be visiting Rigaud in October are also among the finalists. Jonathan Roy has received the following nominations: Album of the Year - Anglophone at the Premier Gala de l'ADISQ for his opus Life Distorsions and Show of the Year - Anglophone. For her part, Guylaine Tanguay, also in Rigaud in a few weeks' time, could win Female Artist of the Year at the ADISQ Gala on November 5.
On another note, Francis DeGrandpré, who opened for Matt Lang at the recent Festival régional de la grillade de la Ville de Saint-Zotique, has been nominated for Album of the Year - Country at the Premier Gala de l'ADISQ. He could also go home with the Revelation of the Year trophy from the Gala de l'ADISQ a few days later.
