Île-aux-Tourtes bridge: Fifth lane to open by September 29
The Île-aux-Tourtes bridge should have a fifth lane of traffic by September 29. This long-awaited reopening will enable the implementation of dynamic traffic management.
"This is excellent news, eagerly awaited by the citizens of Vaudreuil-Soulanges! The reopening of the fifth lane will certainly allow traffic to flow more smoothly on the bridge, while maintaining user safety, which always remains the priority. I'd like to thank motorists for their patience over the past few months," said Marilyne Picard, MNA for Soulanges, in a press release.
In late fall 2022, major cracks were detected in a box girder on the north side of the bridge, towards Vaudreuil-Dorion.
The required work was then undertaken rapidly, and the closure of an additional lane was necessary for the safety of workers and road users.
Traffic management
The reopening of the fifth lane will restore dynamic traffic management, enabling the reopening of three lanes in each direction during rush hour, according to the following schedule:
- Montreal-bound: between 4 a.m. and 11 a.m;
- Vaudreuil-Dorion-bound: between 1 p.m. and 2 a.m. the following day.
With the reopening of this fifth lane on the bridge, the lane reserved for the duration of the reinforcement work will be removed. As a result, three lanes per direction will be open on Highway 40, upstream and downstream of the bridge.
