Journées de la Culture on September 30
Vaudreuil-Dorion launches the Creative Oasis
On the occasion of the Journées de la culture, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion invites the public to discover a brand new space dedicated to the practice of artistic disciplines: l'Oasis créative. The official launch will take place on Saturday, September 30 at 1 p.m. in the La Croisée building (1255-1257, rue Émile-Bouchard). Artist Marjorie Taillefer will hold painting workshops with visitors at 2 p.m.
The Oasis créative is a place where people of all ages can create and share their artistic know-how, and take a moment to realize an art project. A local artist is on hand to accompany participants in their creative endeavours.
This fall, from September 25 to December 15, the co-creation space is available three days a week, according to the following schedule:
- Mondays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Marjorie Taillefer
- Tuesdays, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. with Monica Brinkman
- Fridays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Céline Poirier
A variety of materials are available free of charge: dry pastels, watercolors, acrylic paints, felt-tip pens, lead pencils, matte mediums, chalks, varnishes, cardboard canvases, etc.
Themes such as abstraction, nature, words and the monochromatic dimension will be exploited by artists to create their own personal works, and may serve as inspiration for users of the Oasis créative during the autumn season.
"A little like the Lab at the library, the Creative Oasis is intended to be a self-service creative space where an artist is present to offer help, accompany visitors in their artistic process or simply discuss around a common interest.
"Users can select the medium they wish to use for their project, work on it for a while and come back later to refine it as they wish. The aim is to offer an inspiring place for co-creation to the citizens of Vaudreuil-Dorion," explains Mélissa Gagné, coordinator - culture at the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion.
"When the time came to choose a location for the Oasis créative, the La Croisée building was the obvious choice.
"This intergenerational community center in Vaudreuil-Dorion's most densely populated area, close to elementary school and seniors' residences, is without doubt the ideal location. Families, teenagers, seniors... all are welcome," adds Vincent Bastien, Director of the Leisure and Culture Department.
This project is made possible thanks to the Entente de développement culturel 2021-2024 between the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion and the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec.
A weekend of culture
In addition to the launch of the Creative Oasis, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion is offering two other opportunities to consume culture during the Journées de la Culture weekend, all free of charge.
On Friday, September 29, at 7:30 p.m., actor and singer Jean Petitclerc invites the public to the Maison Félix-Leclerc (186, chemin de l'Anse) for an intimate, nostalgic and festive concert.
Drawing on the repertoires of the greatest French and local songwriters, the artist will present the texts and music that have shaped his vision of the world.
On Sunday, October 1, children aged 4 to 8 are invited to the Centre multisports André-Chagnon to attend the show Le Carnaval des animaux, part of the Coup de théâtre series.
Inspired by the whimsical work of composer Camille Saint-Saëns, Le Carnaval des animaux takes children on a fabulous musical journey guided by two clown-like characters.
Cultural programming from the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion and local organizations is available at jesuismozaik.com.
