In the wake of the public accusations made against two management employees, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion is considering taking action against the citizen who lodged the complaint.

On September 5, Mr. Jean Jolicoeur addressed the municipal council to demand a formal apology from the executives, who, according to the complainant, had made threats against him.

At the time of his questioning, Mr. Jolicoeur indicated that an audio recording and a transcript of the said recording were available and that, at the mayor's request, they could be forwarded to him.

In a speech delivered at the start of the meeting on Monday, September 18, Councillor and Pro-Mayor Paul Normand set the record straight.

"First of all, Council recognizes that this complaint should have been dealt with more promptly. I would also like to mention that this situation led us to put in place a procedure to deal with a complaint of this nature," he said.

According to Mr. Normand, the day after the September 5 meeting, a request was also made to obtain the recording and transcript of the meeting.

"The citizen refused to provide them. The citizen then informed me that he refused to send us anything and "that he had no more time to lose with that". As he put it, he wanted to "turn the page". The same citizen subsequently informed me in writing that the recording and writings recounting the interaction with one of the employees in question were no longer available".

Although the City's handling of the complaint is now closed, the municipal council is assessing the remedies available.

"The refusal to share a recording that would have shed light on the events is distressing, especially as the accusations are serious and damage the reputations of two people with exemplary professional backgrounds. Faced with this situation, the Board and the employees concerned are evaluating their recourse. In the future, we will ensure that this type of complaint is dealt with promptly," concluded Mr. Normand.
