Borrowing by-law to be ratified at October meeting
Les Coteaux buys a pumper truck for nearly $1.5 million
On Monday, September 18, the elected members of the Les Coteaux municipal council awarded a contract for the purchase of a pumper truck for the fire department. The invoice for this vehicle amounts to $1,344,056.60, taxes included.
The contract was awarded to Aéro-Feu, the only bidder. However, as a véhicule is a demo, the Municipality should take possession of it soon.
By way of comparison, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion invested the sum of $1,078,060.21 to acquire a pumper truck in July 2021. Rigaud paid $819,000 for a new pumper-tanker. In 2021, Saint-Zotique paid $499,000 for a pumper-tanker. In 2022, Sainte-Justine-de-Newton will receive the keys to its $400,000 pumper.
"This is a project that the municipal administration has been working on for several months. Our pumper truck has reached the end of its useful life, and we need to think about replacing it. Consequently, we have to resort to a borrowing by-law to finance this purchase," explained Pamela Nantel, General Manager of the Municipalité des Coteaux, at the meeting.
A notice of motion to adopt Borrowing By-law 298 was tabled at the meeting. The loan will be in the order of $1,485,000. Consequently, its adoption will be on the agenda of the October 16 meeting.
The next steps in the file are :
- Adoption of the by-law: October 16;
- Public notice of convocation to the register: October 17;Record-keeping: October 25;
- Documents sent to MAMH: October 27;
- Waiting for MAMH approval: + or - three weeks;
"The by-law also provides for the appropriation of a sum from the unappropriated free surplus and the allocation of a reserve if the Board deems it appropriate at the time of long-term financing," she also specified.
For his part, Mayor Sylvain Brazeau specified that the Municipality should receive a tax return on this purchase.
