The municipal council has tabled a notice of motion to this effect
Parking limited to 90 minutes in downtown Coteau-du-Lac
The elected officials of the City of Coteau-du-Lac want to limit parking to a maximum of 90 minutes in two sectors of its territory. At least, that's what they hinted at at the regular meeting held on Tuesday, September 12, in a notice of motion tabled to this effect.
District 1 Councillor Alain Laprade tabled the Notice of Motion to adopt By-law RHM 330-2021 at the October meeting.
The sectors covered by this project are Rue Principale and Chemin du Fleuve between Canal Langevin and Rivière Rouge. The bylaw will come into force at 6 a.m. and will expire at 4 p.m. in the evening. "We've already put this type of bylaw in place in the area around L'Éclusière elementary school, and we're discussing doing the same thing in these zones. Before the by-law is adopted, we'll have to determine whether it will be in effect five or seven days a week, and adjust it accordingly" explained Mayor Andrée Brosseau on the subject.
During the question period allocated to citizens at the end of the meeting, one lady mentioned that she frequented a hair salon located in one of the zones targeted by the project. "Most of the time, for a dye job, it takes me over 90 minutes to get my hair done. Am I going to have to get out with the hair dye on my head to go and change my car so I don't get a ticket?" she asked.
To this question, the mayor replied that she had taken note and would discuss the matter with her colleagues. "For the moment, we're filing a notice of motion, which means we can still make changes to the bylaw before adopting it. So we'll discuss it before the October meeting."
