Benches as a legacy of Île Perrot's 350th anniversary
The Île Perrot 350th Anniversary Committee and the Société d’histoire et de généalogie de l’île Perrot come together to offer our community of islanders a permanent legacy commemorating the celebrations of the year 2022 which marked the anniversary of the concession of the island by the intendant Jean Talon to François-Marie Perrot on October 29, 1672.
Working in close collaboration with the Île Perrot 350th Anniversary Committee, la Société d’histoire et de généalogie de l’île Perrot was granted an amount of $25,500 from the Government of Canada. Thanks to the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program through the Legacy Fund component, the “Île Perrot 350th anniversary benches” project will come to fruition..
“We are proud to support this project to commemorate the 350th anniversary of Île Perrot. What an opportunity it is to be able to count on talented regional artists to transform history into tangible memories and bridge the gap between past and present. These artistic benches are an investment in the preservation of our heritage, and we hope they will be an inspiration of future generations”, says the Honourable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage
The 350th anniversary committee was also allotted a grant of $10,500 from the Conseil des arts et de la culture de Vaudreuil-Soulanges as part of the cultural and digital innovation program. According to president Julie Lemieux, mayor of Très-Saint-Rédempteur, “the CACVS is proud to contribute to the realization of this project, which will be an everlasting memory of the 350th celebrations for all our citizens. Supporting these innovative cultural practices is, for our organization, an important action. It is a direct contribution to making culture a meaningful agent of development for Vaudreuil- Soulanges”.
The 350th Anniversary Committee is also donating an amount from its own funds of $25,500, a sum which the organization had reserved from the beginning in order to leave a permanent testimony of this significant anniversary.
A subcommittee made up of representatives of the 350th anniversary committee and the Société d’histoire et de généalogie de l’île Perrot, the towns of L’Île-Perrot, Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot, Pincourt and the municipality of Terrasse-Vaudreuil will oversee the artistic creation of these fours works of art known as the “350th anniversary benches” project until the official inauguration. The municipalities have dedicated specific sites where these original benches will attest to their history on Île Perrot.
The unveiling of the “350th anniversary benches” is scheduled for mid-October. Citizens of each municipality on Île Perrot will be invited.
