The Town of Hudson to present 100 trees to its residents
To mark National Tree Day on September 20, the Town of Hudson will be giving away 100 trees to its residents on September 22. Registration is required to take part.
You can register your interest in taking part in this activity until Sunday, September 16 at 9 p.m., or while supplies last.
Participants will receive one tree per civic address. Priority will be given to citizens who have not registered for the spring 2023 tree distribution.
Trees are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
Citizens will be able to choose between the following three species:
1) Sugar maple (Acer saccharum) :
- wide-spreading tree (mature height approx. 20 m) ;
- sun or semi-shade exposure;
- Sugar maple produces greenish-yellow corymbs (flowers) in spring and samaras in autumn.
- Foliage is green in summer, turning orange-yellow to red in autumn for a beautiful autumn color.
2) Western hackberry (Celtis occidentalis) :
- medium-sized tree (mature height approx. 15 m);
- exposure to sun or part shade;
- Western hackberry produces small flowers in spring and dark purple drupes (stone fruits) in autumn. The drupes are eaten by birds and small mammals.
- Although a member of the elm family, Western hackberry is resistant to Dutch elm disease.
3) Kentucky coffee (Gymnocladus dioicus):
- wide-spreading tree (mature height around 20 meters) ;
- sun exposure ;
- Kentucky Coffee has a late bluish-green foliage that turns yellow in autumn.
- It also produces small white flowers in early summer and yellow bean-shaped fruits that turn reddish-brown in autumn.
Following registration, participants will receive confirmation by e-mail, along with information on the species reserved for them. To pick up your trees, go to the Town Hall parking lot between 2 & 6 p.m. on September 22, and present proof of residency showing your name and full address.
