District 3 councillor retires after six years in office
Upcoming by-election in Coteau-du-Lac
Residents of Coteau-du-Lac's District 3 will be going to the polls in the coming months. At the end of the regular meeting on Tuesday, September 12, municipal councillor David-Lee Amos tendered his resignation, effective immediately.
"Earlier today, I handed my letter of resignation to Town Clerk Chantal Paquette. I'm leaving for family reasons. When I ran for office six years ago, I said in my brochure that I wanted to give 100%. But this summer, I missed a few meetings because I was coaching one of my children's baseball teams. I didn't keep my promise and that's why I decided to leave. I didn't put my whole heart into this role, and since I'm a man of my word, I've made this decision," he said at the end of the meeting, during the time allotted to board members to speak.
Mr. Amos said he wanted to leave his seat to someone who could represent the citizens of this district 100%.
He went on to say a few kind words about the municipal administration. "It's been a wonderful adventure in every way. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff of the City of Coteau-du-Lac.They are people of heart who work there and who don't hesitate to put their heart and soul into everything they do. Thank you to the council and the mayor for these six wonderful years," he added.
For her part, Mayor Andrée Brosseau jumped in."Thank you to Mr. Amos for having been such a good councillor, listening to his district and the concerns of its citizens. He had a good team vision and respected the decisions made, even if they sometimes went against his opinion.I wish you all the best," she shared.
For the time being, it is too early to say when the nomination process to replace Mr. Amos will get underway, or when the election will be held. The City of Coteau-du-Lac will share information on its website and official Facebook page on.
