Néomédia in-house survey
Bill C-18: have you changed the way you consume local news?
A few weeks ago, the provincial government passed Bill C-18. In response, Meta and Google are blocking Canadian media content. The subject inspired Néomédia's poll question of the week.
In effect, this law requires large companies such as META and Google to come to an agreement with the country's media for revenue sharing as their content is broadcast on these platforms. A proposal categorically refused by the web giants.
META and Google's response? As reported by La Presse Canadienne in recent days, it is impossible to share or consult journalistic content on Meta websites. Both local and international media are affected.
So this week, we're asking you: Bill C-18: have you changed the way you consume local news?
Here are your choices:
- Yes, because I really want to support local media;
- Yes, but I still take the time, because I think it's important;
- Yes, I've downloaded all the local newspaper mobile apps so I don't miss a thing;
- No, because I'm not sure how to do it technically.
