On Friday, September 1, the new child labor law came into effect in Quebec. It restricts the number of hours school-age children can work. The subject inspired Neomedia's poll question last week. 

The law stipulates that since that date, young people attending school can work up to 17 hours a week, including a maximum of 10 hours from Monday to Friday, as the Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) reminds us.

These restrictions do not apply during periods when there is no school for more than seven days. For example, during summer vacation, the holiday season or spring break. 

The survey question was as follows: Do you agree with the new law governing the work of 14-16 year-olds? 

Answer choices and responses: 

- Yes, this law is long overdue: 22.2%; 

- Yes, teenagers will be able to concentrate on school: 16.7%; 

- Yes, but I think the law should have been extended to all students: 0%. 

- Yes, it will prevent abuse: 11.1%; 

- No, I don't think this law is necessary: 11.1%; 

- No, especially in the current context of labor shortages: 16.7%;  

- Yes and no, but the law should be more flexible: 22.2%.
