Pincourt: The SQ on the field for the safety of schoolchildren
Continuing the Town of Pincourt's road safety campaign, the public safety team, in collaboration with the Sûreté du Québec, held two awareness-raising operations near two elementary schools.
On September 5, the teams were in the vicinity of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette school, while the following day, the operation took place near Edgewater school.
"This type of operation has been held all over Quebec, with the aim of raising motorists' awareness of various aspects of safety near schools. Officers handed out pamphlets and chatted with motorists to remind them of the importance of slowing down, obeying signs and, above all, respecting school bus regulations," explains Valérie Beauchamp, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.
The operation also gave young students the chance to play the game of becoming a live cinemometer.
Despite the increased police presence, several motorists were stopped by officers for speeding, among other offences. However, we could not confirm how many tickets were issued.
Finally, it's important to remember that it's compulsory to stop in the vicinity of a school bus when the red lights are flashing or the stop sign is activated. This rule applies not only to motorists, but also to cyclists.
In the event of non-compliance, motorists can be fined between $200 and $300, plus nine demerit points. For cyclists, the fine ranges from $80 to $100.
