The Société d'horticulture et d'environnement de Saint-Lazare (SHESL) announces its collaboration with volunteers from the David Suzuki Foundation's (DSF) L'Effet Papillon project.

Active in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges MRC since 2021, the volunteers can now continue their community project to integrate pollinator-friendly native plants.

By collaborating with the volunteers, SHESL supports its mission of good environmental practices and enhances its contribution to the community beyond the Saint-Lazare region.

"We're delighted to be working with the L'Effet Papillon volunteers, because there's still so much work to be done to sustain our biodiversity. Starting this fall, a landscaping project in Saint-Lazare is planned, and our members will be lending a hand," says Catherine Décarie, President of SHESL.

For a 2nd consecutive year, Desjardins Vaudreuil-Soulanges is contributing financially to this citizens' campaign, with the aim of supporting the initiative of the volunteers who are working to make a real difference for pollinators.

"This mobilization remains a winning condition in our community where, beyond intentions, there are concrete actions that generate real results. We salute this citizen commitment," added Sébastien Laliberté, General Manager of Caisse Desjardins de Vaudreuil-Soulanges.

Since 2021, FDS volunteers have donated nearly 1,700 native plants to citizens, schools/CPEs, businesses/organizations and towns within the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges territory, helping to create over a hundred native plant habitats for pollinators in the region.

Thanks to their efforts, the towns of Saint-Lazare, Vaudreuil-Dorion and Pincourt have been certified "Butterflyway" by the FDS.

"With the environmental challenges we face today, this initiative makes perfect sense in terms of raising awareness of nature's precarious balance, as well as beautifying the community," said Daniel Forget, President of Jolicoeur Savard Assurance.

"We are very grateful for the financial support we received for this project, and would like to thank the Caisse Desjardins Vaudreuil-Soulanges and Jolicoeur Savard Assurance," concluded Ms. Décarie.
