A great spirit of camaraderie at the 17th edition of Tires de tracteurs antiques
On Saturday, September 2, antique tractor pull enthusiasts gathered at Coteau-du-Lac's Agro-Parc Pont-Château for the 17th edition of this annual competition. Once again this year, many spectators turned out to admire the prowess of the seasoned drivers who took to the dirt track.
Good spirits, sunshine and smiles were in abundance at this much-appreciated event. Every year, the drivers take the opportunity to share their singular passion with the general public.
It has to be said that spectators who attend the event get their money's worth in terms of thrills and spills. On the track, the drivers of the machines, put into service between 1940 and 1960, put on quite a show to win the honors in their respective categories.
The first acceleration was given at the stroke of 10am. The main challenge for the participants was to manage a complete pull due to the condition of the track. Earlier in the week, rain fell on the course, leaving the center of the course still wet for competitors to pass through.
Several competitors tried to avoid the center of the circuit by branching off to the left or right, with the result that only a handful of riders managed to complete a full pull.
Despite this, the participants put on a fine show for the fans in the stands. Year in, year out, the annual event attracts competitors and spectators from all over Quebec, and even Ontario.
A canteen was set up on site for those interested in enjoying grilled meats and other foods. A licensed bar was also available on site.
A spirit of camaraderie reigned among the drivers, despite the competitive aspect of the event. All agreed that, at the end of the day, results mattered little, and that the focus was on the pleasure and quality of the show put on.
Before and after each shootout, the drivers were always available for a chat with each other or with the fans.
