Grain silo rescue training
A new string to the bow of Rigaud's fire department
On Tuesday, August 29, the Rigaud Fire Department team received training and a donation of specialized equipment to practice rescuing a person trapped in a grain silo.
Sponsored by Corteva Agriscience (https://www.corteva.ca/) through the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association's SecuriGrain program, the training enabled firefighters to use the equipment and practice specific safety and rescue procedures and maneuvers in a trailer specially designed for the training to increase the chances of a successful rescue, while ensuring the safety of their department members.
Remember that burial in grain is extremely dangerous for both the victim and the rescuers.
Complementing the team's existing expertise in confined-space and overhead rescues, the training and equipment will benefit grain silo owners in the territory served by Rigaud's Service de sécurité incendie (SSI).
The SSI would like to thank Corteva Agriscience for their generous donation of specialized equipment and training, as well as Hélène Therrien and Normand Chevrier for making their farm facilities available to the SSI for this event.
