Neomedia in-house survey
The teacher shortage is a major concern for our readers
At the start of the new school year, some 40 teaching positions were still to be filled at the Centre de services scolaires des Trois-Lacs (CSSTL).
"After the August 11 contract-awarding session, we still had eight positions to fill. These positions were almost all filled, after a second session on August 14. What you need to understand is that this second session was for teachers in the process of qualifying or those who had not completed their two contracts with the CSSTL. At present, we only have one position left, plus 40% in orthopedagogy and a few in music. This is excellent news in itself," Véronique Lefebvre, President of the Syndicat de l'enseignement de la région de Vaudreuil, told Néomédia a few days ago.
Education Minister Bernard Drainville issued a call for help last week, asking retired teachers to come forward and lend a hand in Quebec schools.
As a result, this provincial issue, which affects many of Quebec's School Service Centers, inspired Neomedia's question of the week.
Respondents were asked the following question: Are you concerned about the lack of teachers in our schools?
The available choices were:
- Yes, it's our children's future we're talking about: 92.9%;
- Yes, but I'm confident that all positions will be filled quickly: 0%;
- No, they always find solutions: 0%;
- No, not at all: 7.1%.
Where do you stand on this issue?
