At the most recent municipal council meeting
Saint-Zotique: environmental subsidies and pedestrian crossings attract attention
Saint-Zotique's municipal council took advantage of its most recent regular meeting on Tuesday August 29 to submit a request to the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable. That same evening, the elected officials also clarified the grants available under the Climate Change Initiatives Program.
The request submitted to the MTQ is for the installation of pedestrian crossings at five locations on the municipal territory.
"We would like to see pedestrian crossings installed on 4th, 9th, 15th, 28th and 72nd Avenues to make these streets safer for both walkers and the motorists who use them on a daily basis," emphasized Mayor Yvon Chiasson, without however specifying when these crossings might be installed, should the provincial authority respond positively.
Four environmental grants offered to residents
At the same meeting, Saint-Zotique's elected officials ratified the Climate Change Initiatives Program, set up to encourage residents to do their bit for the environment.
This year, four grants are available to interested residents. They concern the following four items: battery-powered snowblower, rainwater collection barrel, electric lawnmower and charging station. The maximum eligible rebate per residence is $250 per year.
On its website, the Municipality of Saint-Zotique states that, through this initiative, it aims to promote sustainable development and the maintenance of ecological goods and services. How do we do this? By protecting the environment and encouraging the acquisition and installation of eco-responsible equipment on the territory of the Municipality of Saint-Zotique.
The subsidy takes the form of a cash rebate, payable to the owner and/or tenant of a residential building who installs or has installed the equipment, subject to compliance with the eligibility conditions set out in Bylaw 748.
The 4 objectives of this by-law are
- Zero waste;
- Recovery of organic residues;
- Air quality improvement;
- Reduced use of drinking water.
The application form and required documents should be sent to [email protected] or to the mailbox on the front door of Town Hall, 1250 rue Principale, Saint-Zotique.
